 A program note says that the time of the action is “an average day in the life of Charlie Brown.” It really is just that, a day made up of little moments picked from all the days of Charlie Brown, from Valentine’s Day to the baseball season, from wild optimism to utter despair, all mixed in with the lives of his friends (both human and non-human) and strung together on the string of a single day, from bright uncertain morning to hopeful starlit evening.

When a package bound for Good Good Island is mistakenly delivered to Bad Bad Island, the Bad Bads find something frighteningly horrible inside: a little girl named Rosa! Unable to choose between throwing her into a volcano or tossing her into the sea, the creatures of the island finally agree that their ruler, The Idol, should decide. He challenges Rosa with a series of impossible tasks — but what happens when she starts doing the impossible? This wildly inventive adventure shows that sometimes family and goodness can be found in the most unlikely of places.

After several years on Tucson’s east side, renting space at the Episcopal church of St. Matthew, we had begun to outgrow the space available to us.

Our board put plans in motion, and we spent nearly 8 months looking for a suitable new home to house both our theatrical and visual arts offerings.

As of January 2011, we have moved to our new, larger space at Swan and River!  We are renting space from St. Francis in the Foothills.  Our theatrical productions will take place in the center, and theater classes will happen in rooms on the campus.  Additionally, the move has allowed us to rent space within the same campus specifically for our Visual Arts program!

We are also very pleased to announce that because of the move, we are now the only theater in the Foothills area of Tucson!

You can find us (or write to us) at 4625 E. River Road, in the grounds of St. Francis in the Foothills.  Our office hours change, depending on shows in production, but you are invited to email us at info@studioconnections.net and we will reply as soon as possible.

We thank you for your support during our years on Tucson’s east side, and hope you will continue to visit us at our new Foothills home.

Our production starred Kit Runge as Quixote, Dennis Gallardo as Sancho and Kriste Belt as Aldonza, with a gallery of Studio Connections’ regulars and newcomers filling up our dungeon.  We were greatly aided by the lighting designs of Russell Stagg, and set designs by Samantha Cormier.

DaVinci Prep presents: THE SECRET GARDEN

The Secret Garden was written by Frances Hodgson Burnett. It was initially published in serial format starting in autumn 1910; the book was first published in its entirety in 1911. It is now one of Burnett’s most popular novels, and is considered to be a classic of children’s literature.

DaVinci Underground (The all new after hours series at Studio Connections) presents the first show of the season, the Arizona Debut of Hate Mail by Bill Corbett and Kira Obolensky, opening July 22nd and running through August 1st.

 Hate Mail is an epistolary play something like A.R. Gurney’s Love Letters, with two actors reading letters and other correspondence, but it’s a little wilder and more hysterically funny. It tells the story of Preston, a spoiled rich kid who meets his match in Dahlia, an angst-filled artist. Their worlds collide when Preston sends a complaint letter that gets Dahlia fired from her job, and then there’s no turning back. The play stays with their increasingly crazed correspondence as they move from hate to love and then back again.

 Sylvia, by A.R. Gurney, a romantic comedy on mid-life relationships, and a dog.

Greg, middle-aged and middle-class, returns to his Upper West Side apartment in the late afternoon accompanied by Sylvia, a beautiful, frisky young dog he has just picked up in the park. He sits in his favorite chair, worried (with some reason) about how Kate, his wife, is going to respond to Sylvia. Sylvia doesn’t make things easy.  

For anyone who has ever owned a dog, loved a dog, wanted to wring a dog’s neck or wished the dog would take a long weekend. Here’s a romantic triangle about Greg (Rick Shipman), Kate (Lissa Staples) and the mongrel named Sylvia (Teresa Vasquez) who, as Kate puts it, eats a serious hole in their 22-year marriage.
